Ants create "wall painting" in Taiwan's Taichung Matsu Temple

Wall painting by ants
Taichung Matsu Temple's office wall was recently attacked by a group of "paint eating" ants, which resulted in an amazing piece of art!

Mr Yang Wang Fu, the director of the temple, explained that recently the office's wall suddenly attracted a large group of ants which were feeding on the wall's paint. Initially, he had the intention to use water or pesticides to exterminate the ants, but on second thoughts, he decided to let nature take its course as he believes that Matsu, the goddess of the Sea is a compassionate and merciful motherly protector.

Never did he expect the ants to create this beautiful wall painting in a month's time, which attracted many followers and visitors to pay the temple a visit. Mr Yang also commented that this was the first time in his life he had seen something like this.

However, others believe that the heavy rain during the past few days had caused the ants to be unable to search for food outdoor. Some of the incense may have been blown onto the wall, and this scent most probably attracted the hungry ants that mistook the wall paint as some kind of food.

The temple's committee held a meeting and decided to keep this rare "wall painting".
