A successful brain operation was performed 5,000 years ago

Skull
This human skull was discovered in 1995 among the relics of the Dawenkou culture which lasted for 1,500 years some 6,100 years ago. A hole which is 3.1 by 2.5 cm wide can be seen at the back of the skull. It is believed that this skull belongs to an adult male.

The circular arc on the edge of the hole appears to have grown naturally after some modifications and bone tissue repair was done. Experts believe that the owner of this skull managed to survive the operation and live for quite a while after that. This proves that the operation was a success.

The fact that this surgical operation was performed successfully during such an un-technological age is just incredible. It might just be the earliest successful brain operation performed on a human.
