Its beating wings forming an almost perfect square against a background of water spray, this is an American bald eagle in the act of catching a fish. In fact it was taken by a tourist with a standard camera hoping for a memorable holiday snap.
Dean Bertoncelj, 39, had his close encounter of the bird kind at a nature reserve on Lanzarote in the Canary Isles.
The Croatian from Zagreb said: "I lay down on the ground waiting for it to arrive and unbelievably it swooped down right in front me and picked up a fish. I think it is the best picture I've ever taken."
