Lynne VerneyWhen a car crash victim was brought into a hospital so badly injured that her head was detached from her spine, doctors said she had just hours to live.

Lynne Verney's relatives were told by medical staff: 'She's fading fast – she will be dead in four hours.'

But then a nurse spotted her squeeze the hand of her daughter, Maxine, as she said farewell to her mother.

That tiny sign of life sent the medical team into action and they brought the 56-year-old mother of two back from the brink of death with several emergency operations.
