Water Tornadoes

Tornadoes. You have probably seen on TV the destructive power of tornadoes, such as the ones in United States - capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of 250 mph or more. Waterspouts, on the other hand, are weak tornadoes that form over warm water and they occasionally move inland becoming tornadoes causing damage and injuries.

On 19 October 2006, some spectacular waterspouts were spotted at a Turkish beach. The tourists in Anatalya were too intrigued by the water tornadoes sprouting up on the horizon that they forgot about their own safety. The wind and water twisted and curved like a sea serpent, and it looked as though the clouds were piercing the water.

One can only marvel at the show put on by Mother Nature – dangerous yet alluring.
