Australia will be building the world’s biggest space-age solar power station by making use of high performance solar cells originally developed to power satellites. A company called Solar Systems, based in Melbourne, Australia, will be constructing this 154 megawatt station which costs a total of US $3.2 million. In addition to being able to meet the needs of 45,000 households, the company claims that it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 400,000 tones a year. The project will start in 2008 and will reach full capacity by 2013.
