Here’s a rare photograph of the Niagara Falls almost freezing over during winter. Click on the image for a larger view. This is actually a true occurrence and not a photoshopped image.
The flow of water was stopped completely over both falls -- Niagara falls actually consists of the American side where 10% of the water flows and the Canadian side (horseshoe shaped) where 90% of the water flows -- on March 29th 1848 because “mini-icebergs” flowing downstream from Lake Erie caused the flow in the upper river to clog for several hours. This is the only known time to have occurred. The Falls did not actually freeze over, but the flow was stopped to the point where people actually walked out and recovered artifacts from the riverbed!
