The mini travelling bag which 13 year-old Tee Hui Yi drags around at the KLCC park contains a 9kg portable battery to power a mechanical heart which can be seen peeking out from underneath her T-shirt.
A patient at the National Heart Institute (IJN) and diagnosed with end-stage heart failure when she was two years old after suffering from a viral infection, Tee is the second mechanical heart recipient after 16-year-old Mohd Fikri Nor Azmi. Fikri received a new heart on Dec 16, 2005.
She will most likely miss spending Chinese New Year with her family in Johor as her condition does not allow her to travel long distances. Now all that she hopes for is a new heart - so that she can start leading a normal life.
