This huge mushroom known as the laetiporus sulphureus was discovered by Guo Xinhua, a local resident of Alatai city, China. It is edible (taste like chicken) and mostly grows on the roots of old willow trees in this region. This mushroom weighs 12.5kg and has a diameter of 0.5 meter. The mushroom shown here is only two-thirds of the actual size as it is too tightly bound to the willow tree to be extracted in its entirety. Local experts say such a large find is extremely rare. You can find out what it looks like when it is younger and more information about it here.
