Stuffed-animal menagerie claws spot in record books

Shawn McNairA herd of 2,300 stuffed animals snatched a Guinness World Record, as National Geographic Kids magazine urged its readers to donate plush toys for needy Washington-area children.

The stuffed animals will be delivered to underprivileged kids through the US Marine Corps' "Toys for Tots" program, which doled out some 18.5 million toys to 7.5 million children last year.

Standing in front of a colorful pride of lions, teddy bears and ducks, Shawn McNair, 7, of Newburgh, New York, won a certificate for donating the most stuffed animals to the program, 237. "I like to make a lot of children happy," McNair said.
