World’s first fully rotating residential structure

Previously, I mentioned about a wind shaped pavilion which provides for ever changing views everyday. However, that is just a concept building. Now, a UK architecture firm, Glenn Howells, have made this dream a reality by coming up with a unique architecture -- Time Residences, the world’s first turning tower -- which will start construction in June next year which is projected to complete in the first quarter of 2009. It is set to revolutionize the world of construction by being the only completely rotating residential structure on the planet. The 80,000 ton, 30-floor, structure in the heart of Dubai will house 200 unique apartments.

Solar energy is stored and used to drive the rotation mechanism, to provide 360-degree views to every resident, also to light communal areas in the building. Rotating at 52 degrees in 24 hours, the whole building will make a complete 360 degrees turn in the course of seven days.

In addition to being able to rotate, a distinctive time line runs down the building that meets 12 o’clock markings on the ground and the podium, allowing observers to use the building as a fully functioning time piece.
