On a visit to the cinema with two girlfriends, Tina Kilford settled down with a tub of ice cream and waited for the trailers to finish. After a scene of waves crashing on a beach, a familiar figure appeared on the screen - her boyfriend Tom Lane in a dinner suit.
He held up a series of 22 placards which began: 'Hi Tina' and concluded with the messages: 'Will you marry me?' and 'Look behind you'.
Mr Lane, 39, then appeared, got down on one knee and offered her an engagement ring. The audience duly erupted into cheers and applause when 36-year-old Miss Kilford said Yes.
