The weight of the kid is directly on the wheels. As long as the kid is properly positioned, the dog will feel no weight on his back at all.
In fact if the kid was sitting any further back behind the wheels, the dog could be lifted off the ground!

Agreed.. but I'm pretty sure the kid would move about, and that could pose a problem.
