Woman wakes up six years after heart attack, stroke

HospitalAfter spending nearly seven years in a quasi-vegetative state, Christa Lilly woke up earlier this week and began to talk to her mother and a local TV news crew.

She was up and about for three days. The Denver Post says the 49-year-old "was awake, alert and conversing in short sentences with her elated daughters and granddaughters and her mother."

Then she relapsed.

Smith says her daughter has woken up five times since she suffered a heart attack and stroke in 2000, something the doctors call "cyclical awakening," but she's never been so cognizant for so long.
