The Tamagotchi (たまごっち) is a handheld virtual pet created in 1996 and sold by Bandai. The original Tamagotchi sold like hot cakes (around 40 million worldwide) to kids and grown-ups alike. Consisting of a small, battery powered device with an LCD screen, the Tamagotchi was a small animal that the owner could give food and drink to and pet to stay entertained. Not paying attention to your pet meant that it eventually died and the LCD went blank.Tomy has revealed a new generation of the Tamagotchi that displays its sad, angry, or happy facial emotions on its LCD screen. This cool little pet will even flap its ears and move its body based the sounds and sensation of touch it perceives. It will be made available in August.
