10-year-old locked in safe

Daniel Jancura locked in a safeA 10-year-old boy spent several harrowing minutes locked in a gun safe at a Sam's Club in Worcester.

Authorities say Daniel Jancura went to the Sam's Club store on Barber Avenue Monday afternoon with his mother, aunt and cousins to shop for some items for an upcoming vacation.

The children, all between the ages of 10 and 14, wandered over to an area where an open gun safe was on the floor.

Jancura climbed inside the safe and his cousins locked him in it. They were able to get him out because the code to open it was left nearby.

Then he went in again. This time, the wrong code was accidentally entered and the safe locked down, trapping the boy inside.

Sam's Club employees called the fire department and the manufacturer of the safe to get an override code. About 15 minutes later, the safe was opened and Jancura was free.

Fire officials say he was sweaty and scared, but not hurt. He also had some room to move in the safe. It's five feet tall and two-and-a-half feet wide, which allowed Jancura to stand up during his ordeal.
