Petrol-Powered Roller Skates

Petrol-Powered Roller SkatesA consignment of potentially deadly petrol-powered roller skates have been impounded amid fears they could end up being used on the streets.

The adapted inline roller blades travel at speeds of up to 20mph (32km/h) with no way of braking and could explode in an accident.

Fifty pairs of the skating shoes from China were on their way to an address in Bournemouth, Dorset, when Customs and Excise tipped-off Trading Standards in the seaside town.

Officers discovered a 5kg petrol motor attached to a fifth wheel on the back of the right skate. A hand-controlled throttle powers the motor.

The plastic petrol tank also prompted fears that it could explode along with the skater in the event of an accident.
