Panda poo gifts on sale

They are almost as cute as Winnie and they are definitely poo bears but that is where the similarity ends.

These models, crafted by hand from giant panda droppings, are among a unique set of trinkets put on sale at a breeding centre for the endangered species.

Staff appear to have dropped everything to create a range of bampoo gifts, from fans and picture frames to Olympic-themed panda athletes.

The statues are so detailed you can even make out smiles on their faeces.

The excrement idea was hatched at the Chengdu centre in Sichuan province, China, as a profitable way to shift the tonne of waste its 60 giant pandas create every day.

'We used to spend at least £400 ($806) a month to get rid of the droppings but now they can prove lucrative as half of them will be sold as souvenirs,' said Jing Shimin from the centre.

The dung is ground, dried and sterilised before the end product is made.
