Teen Gets Perfect Scores on SAT, ACT

John LiuJohn Liu didn't realize how nervous he was while taking the SAT last December until he was finished. He needn't have worried: He scored a perfect 2400. Four months later, John took the ACT and scored a perfect 36.

The Kentucky teen's double perfection on the two college-entrance exams is an unusual feat, said educators and officials with ACT and the College Board, which administers the SAT.

During the 2006-07 school year, more than 2.2 million ACT tests were administered. Only 177 came back with a 36. And of the nearly 1.5 million SAT exams taken, only 269 came back with a 2400.

Scoring perfectly on one exam is hard enough, but to score perfectly on both exams is a "remarkable achievement," ACT spokeswoman Kristin Crouse said.

John said he isn't sure what his college major will be, but he is certain it will have something to do with math or science. He is applying to Yale University, Washington University and Northwestern University.
