World's Oldest Wall Painting Unearthed In Syria

World's Oldest Wall PaintingArchaeologists in Syria have found an 11,000-year-old wall painting that they believe is the oldest in the world.

The painting has lots of rectangles in three colors. The red is from burnt hematite rock, the white from crushed limestone, and the black from charcoal.

"It looks like a modernist painting [but] through carbon dating we established it is from around 9000 B.C.," the lead archaeologist said.

The painting, which is on the adobe wall of a large house, will be moved to a museum.
