
The painting has lots of rectangles in three colors. The red is from burnt hematite rock, the white from crushed limestone, and the black from charcoal.
"It looks like a modernist painting [but] through carbon dating we established it is from around 9000 B.C.," the lead archaeologist said.
The painting, which is on the adobe wall of a large house, will be moved to a museum.
