Cartoon Heimlech Lesson Helps Third Grader Save Best Friend

Everyone at Greenfield Elementary knows third graders Davis Soots and Carl Brown Junior are best buds. So it was no surprise to anyone that Carl jumped to help Davis when he started choking on a cheezit cracker during lunch Monday.

"I told someone in front of me that I was choking. And then my face turned red," said Soots. But Carl Brown Junior saw what was happening and jumped to the rescue.

Carl remembered what he saw a long time ago in a cartoon, how a mouse gave the Heimlich Maneuver to a choking person. The nine-year-old wrapped his arms around his buddy and pulled in hard one...two...three times before the cracker flew out across the table.
